Used since the time of the Ming Dynasty, black tea is a commonly used ingredient in different beauty regimens. The strong tannins and antioxidants that can be found in black tea can help fight against environmental effects and bacteria growth, while helping to hydrate and nourish the skin. Due to the high index of caffeine in black teas it has also been found to plump, de-puff and firm the skin.
One ancient beauty ritual was to take black tea that had been steeped and place it on or around the eyes. This would help to rid the eye area of any puffiness or dark circles. Today this can be easily done with the use of tea bags once they cooled. Additionally, the biggest benefit of black tea is that it can absorb excess sebum, which produces the oily residue found on the skin’s surface. Black tea benefits all skin types.
